Marae Moana moves to Environment Service to strengthen ocean management

The Cook Islands Government has completed the transition of the Marae Moana Coordination Office (MMCO) from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) to Te Tu’anga Taporoporo National Environment Service (NES), following the passage of the Marae Moana Amendment Act 2026 earlier this year.

Washington is tearing down bureaucratic barriers that have delayed investment and financing in the Pacific, as the United States looks to deliver swifter results from its renewed engagement with the region.

United States deputy secretary of state Christopher Landau made this comment in response to a question from Cook Islands News at the conclusion of the two-day “Pacific Agenda: Investment, Security and Shared Prosperity Summit” in Honolulu, Hawaii, this week.

Seabed Minerals Advisory Committee Members Formally Appointed

The Seabed Minerals Authority (SBMA) Seabed Minerals (SBM) Advisory Committee members were formally appointed on Tuesday, 17 February, at the Cabinet Room, Office of the Prime Minister, in a decorum that marked an important milestone in strengthening community representation within the seabed minerals sector.

Cook Islands Seabed Minerals Data Repository

SBMA has recently commissioned its Seabed Minerals Data Repository (CSD), which includes a public area (CSD Public). The CSD stores data collected through SBM activities. We are making all environmental data publicly available. You can access CSD Public on our website.

Agencies collaborate to celebrate World Ocean Day 2021

On Tuesday 8 June government agencies celebrated World Ocean Day. Held at the Maire Nui grounds, the event included eight agencies and departments with informational booths on their role in the ocean space.
