Feedback on seabed mineral regulations extended

The opportunity to submit feedback on the draft seabed mineral mining regulations has been extended for another month.

Seabed Minerals Authority Commissioner Alex Herman confirmed the extension and said the Authority released these draft regulations for public comment on November 17 last year with a deadline on January 15 this year for responses.

“We are now extending the deadline for an additional month, to allow stakeholders and the public more time to comment on the Regulations if they wish,” she said.

“The Authority will continue its steady development of the Seabed Minerals sector along with our partners and stakeholders. This includes the ongoing development of further regulations, guidelines and processes to manage SBM activities.”

She said the work will be supported by the Seabed Minerals working group made up of relevant government agencies such as the National Environment Service with international partners including Australian and New Zealand agency counterparts.

It was in November last year that the Authority released draft Seabed Minerals (Mining) Regulations for public comment.
